THE INFLUENCE OF CHARACTERISTICS ON THE GENDER GAP IN THE WORLD OF THEATER AND CINEMA

In the modern world, the film industry is developing very rapidly. Many people dream of becoming actors and actresses. But in this profession, preference is given mainly to male actors. Scientists who have dealt with this problem have come to the conclusion that such discrimination is associated with consumer demand and with the high position of men in society. We decided to investigate this issue based on the quality of the acting skills of the actors and actresses. The purpose of this work is to consider the relationship of actor's characteristics (dissociation, flow, empathy) for the performance of roles by actors and actresses. Searches for articles were carried out in the Scopus electronic database from September 2021 to January 2022. We selected 14 articles based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria. These articles explored the issues of discrimination against actresses and acting characteristics. To study the quality of acting, we selected 30 acting actors who signed consent to participate in our study. Then they gave time to prepare a monologue, which we had selected in advance. After the presentation, all participants filled out questionnaires to identify dissociation, flow and empathy. Next, we calculated the results separately for men and women. The level of empathy and dissociation among the actresses was slightly higher than that of the actors, the level of flow among the private actors of both sexes was the same. Discrimination in the world of theater and cinema does not depend on the performance of the actors and actresses themselves. The results of this research work can be used by the psychologists working with actors, and by other people interested in the world of cinema.
