THE EFFECTS OF STUDENTS' SHYNESS AND LONELINESS ON SMARTPHONE ADDICTION: A SUBJECT FIELD REVIEW

For a long time it was believed that loneliness is a problem of Western society and there is no such problem in Russia and there cannot be. However, recently, the problem of loneliness has become relevant for many Russians. Shyness and loneliness, considered in this work, is not physical or social isolation from society, but loneliness in society, when a person often consists of an extensive network of communications. This article examined the effects of student shyness and loneliness on smartphone addiction. This review looks at studies published between December 2019 and November 2021. In total, about 2,700 studies were retrieved through preliminary searches. As a result, 30 articles were included in the meta-analysis. The number of subjects who took part in the quantitative analysis was 700,500 college students. The prevalence of depression, anxiety, and other psychological disorders among college students increased significantly during 2019, but these changes are not significant if we take into account the estimates for 2021 estimated in the reviewed longitudinal studies. To fully understand the impact of student shyness and loneliness on smartphone addiction, additional research would be a welcome addition to the rather limited literature on late-stage student mental health. The results of this review can be used by psychologists, university teachers and other practitioners dealing with students.
