English and Arabic are two structurally different languages: the former belongs to the Indo-European family of languages, precisely Germanic, while the latter is Semitic, belonging to the Asian Semitic language family. The huge difference between the two languages in their origins resulted in the necessity of analyzing and describing their variationsboth in text and speech. Hence, a contrastive study of Arabic and English is needed to focus on the key similarities and differences between the two languages, so that to understand word order patterns of both languages. Furthermore, the object of the study is to describe word-order patterns of simple sentence structures of English and Arabic. The subject of the study is to find out similarities and differences between the two languages. Finally, the method used in the contrastive study is a paradigmatic one.
