(Khamrabaevite (Ti,V,Fe)C - a new mineral.

Khamrabaevite is found in subvolcanic bodies of amygdaloidal basalt porphyries on the S slope of the Chatkal range and in granodiorites of the Zeravshan range which have been subject to Si metasomatism. In the basalt porphyries it occurs in the outer part of porous aggregates of suessite, (Fe,Ni)3Si, as small (0.1-0.33 mm) cubic crystals with skeletal habit; these are elongated in the (111) direction with short side branches oriented along (110). In the granodiorites it occurs in the outer parts of spheroidal aggregates which have cores of native iron, carbonaceous material and magnetite. After subtracting reflections due to native iron and magnetite impurities, the XRD powder pattern of khamrabaevite has strongest lines 2.163(10), 1.299(10), 1.535(8), 2.504(6), 1.247(4) A; a 4.319 A; space group Fm3m; Z = 8. It has Dcalc 9.87 g/cm3; H. > 9 (2290-2233 N/mm2 for 50g). The dispersion of the reflectance is tabulated; 47.7% at 600 nm. The mean of five probe analyses gave Ti 69.04, V 6.74, Fe 1.71, Si 0.10, C 20.05, = 97.64, leading to the idealized formula (Ti,V,Fe)C. The name is for I.K. Khamrabaeva.-R.A.H.
