Chronic disorders of consciousness: Diagnosis and prognostication

We devote the review to the analysis of the literature on the study of states of pathological impairment of consciousncss based on the use of neuroimaging, electrophysiological, and other non-invasive methods for assessing the activity of the nervous system. It highlights the problems of diagnosing and predicting the recovery of patients with chronic disorders of consciousness. Neuroimaging, electrophysiological, physiological, and other correlates of chronic disturbances of consciousness, such as the minimally conscious state and the unresponsive wakefulness syndrome, are considered. We discuss the ways of solving the problems of diagnosis and prognosis in chronic disorders of consciousness. © 2021 Maik Nauka-Interperiodica Publishing. All rights reserved.
