Synthesis and Structure of Copper(II) Chloride and Copper(II) Perchlorate Complexes with 3,3-Dimethyl-3,4-dihydroisocarbostyril: Crystal Structure of the [CuL2Cl2]2 Complex

Copper(II) chloride and copper(II) perchlorate crystal hydrates react with 3,3-dimethyl-3,4-dihydroisocarbostyril (L1) to produce [CuL1 2Cl2]2 and [CuL1 4 (ClO4)2], respectively. The [CuL1 2 Cl2]2 complex is characterized by X-ray crystallography. In contrast to the reactions of copper(II) salts with 3,3-dimethyl-3,4-dihydrothioisocarbostyril, the above reaction is not accompanied by reduction of Cu(II) to Cu(I). Both the free and coordinated ligand L1 occur in the lactam form. The ligand coordinates the metal through the oxygen atom. The IR spectra of the complexes are discussed, and molar conductivity of their solutions is measured.
