An optical setup for measuring amplitude and phase distributions of surface acoustic waves

The setup is intended for measuring amplitude and phase distributions of surface acoustic wave fields in a frequency range of 10-100 MHz. Optimal parameters of the setup and its elements are presented. The threshold detection amplitude of surface acoustic waves is 10-4 nm for a 1-kHz reception bandwidth. The phase channel instability does not exceed 0.2° during the measurement cycle. The relative difference between the velocities at the free and metal-coated surfaces is obtained from phase measurements with a test sample. The result is in good agreement with reference data. © 1998 MAHK Hayka/Interperiodica Publishing.
