Mentoring has been known since ancient times, and today it attracts both theoretical and practical interest, including in the field of education. At the same time, the professional and educational standards in force in the Russian Federation do not provide for mentoring among the labor functions and actions, universal and general professional competencies of a teacher. In this regard, the structural and functional features of mentoring activities are identified, as well as the main competencies of the mentor are determined.
