‘AMERICAN BRAND': COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF THE AMERICAN AND NEW ZEALAND VARIANTS OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE

British English has become the progenitor of many language branches. The American and New Zealand variants of English encompassed in this article are its direct descendants. Having a British basis originally, the time has transformed them into separate and distinctively developing languages with significant peculiarities in phonetics, grammar, and lexis.The American variant is more commonly used than the New Zealand one in English-speaking countries. America's global leadership can explain this difference in the political, economic, cultural, and other interrelations' areas. The intensive process of globalization, universal Internet coverage of the public, and constant exposure to the global mass media provoke significant linguistic changes visible in NZE's example. Therefore, this article depicts American English dominance compared to other variants of the English language and demonstrates that Americanisms and American accent are typical occurrences in the speech of New Zealanders. Nevertheless, the New Zealand variant of the English language is characterized by a clear sound. Unlike Americans, New Zealanders do not swallow syllables; their speech is easier to understand.The purpose of this article is to analyse two derivates of English, the American variant (AE) and the New Zealand variant (NZE), identify similarities and differences, and show the American's impact on the New Zealand English. This paper also presents the online survey results among RUDN University students, systematized and structured in the comparative table.
