SPECIFICS OF TRANSLATING MARLENE DUMAS' TEXTS FROM ENGLISH TO RUSSIAN

This paper analyzes the specifics of translating Marlene Dumas' texts from English to Russian. It highlights the complicity of the goal and the difficulties that can occur for various reasons such as problems of determining the meaning of a word to a misunderstanding of the structure of a sentence. To answer this question, we compared three approaches to translation: P. Newmark's, V.N. Commissarov's and L.S. Barkhudarov's and established that each of the approaches is unique in its own way. But we concluded that Newmark's efficient point of view, in this case, is more appropriate. Our results are shown practically through examples on M. Dumas' texts and comments in terms of vocabulary, grammatical and syntactical structure are made. The results also revealed the difficulties when translating a text from English to Russian, when keeping the cultural differences and similarities in mind. The case of misspelling words on purpose and thereupon the equivalent in the Russian language not existing is studied. This article emphasizes on the need of art as a universal mean of communication, a path that knows no boundaries and a way to discussing critical issues concerning humanity, without language and political barriers. The necessity of art in nowadays' society is clear because it is the language that uses not only words, but images, sounds, movements, it provides depth and quality to our existence, it activates our unconscious and awakens various parts of the human essence.
