British citizenship: a history of reform in the 20^th century

The article examines the development of citizenship legislation in Great Britain from the 20^th century to the present day. The authors analyze the influence of the historical context and political events on the formation of the current system of categories of British citizenship and on changes in the legislation on citizenship. Special attention is paid to understanding the institution of citizenship in the context of contemporary social cultural problems of British society, migration policy and the formation of national identity.

В статье рассматривается развитие законодательства о гражданстве в Великобритании с XX в. до наших дней. Анализируется влияние исторического контекста и политических событий на формирование текущей системы категорий британского гражданства и на изменения законодательства о гражданстве. Отдельное внимание уделяется пониманию института гражданства в контексте современных социокультурных проблем британского общества, миграционной политики и формирования национальной идентичности.
