Humanitarian Pedagogics as an Alternative to the Present Day Education System in China (Use of Ch'an School and Traditions)

The article is dedicated to the problem of moving from the present day authoritative system of teaching to an alternative humanitarian pedagogics in China as today's Chinese society is in the permanent stress and social pressing condition when no creative innovations are possible. The article points out that the entire social and political system in China is built on the principles of authoritarianism and hierarchy, and the Chinese education system is not an exception. Ideas alternative to the traditional Confucian authoritative hierarchical culture should be sought within the Chinese cultural tradition. The article proposed to review the sources of those ideas in the Chinese Ch'anschool and Taoism. The Ch'an school has a powerful creative stream, which is absolutely required for today's creative perception. It is the Ch'an school that stored the thought of an absolute creative freedom, enduring value of self-expression. In accordance with the Ch'an school teaching, a teacher does not force a student to learn the “dead” knowledge and rules but together with the student is searching for the way for the student to independently unlock the inherent qualities. The Taoist tradition provides for an opportunity of personal enhancement of a Chinese individual, who is to live and create in the post-industrial society of the XXI century.
