THE EFFECT OF RADIATION IONIZING ON THE GERMINATION OF CERTAIN CROP SEEDS

This article discusses the effects of ionizing radiation on the cereal plants seeds. As a result of literature sources analysis, it has been found that certain doses and intensities of gamma radiation don't act depressingly but rather stimulates germination. This aspect is identified and justified the need to continue research of this scientific problem. The author of the article believes that not only ionizing radiation, but also such radiation spectra as alpha, beta, gamma and neutron radiation can be used as alternative methods for examining the seed growth intensification. The author of the study also considers the studying necessity of the various types and doses effect by ionizing radiation on seed material in various crops. As a result of the experimental studies analysis carried out by the author, the researcher came to the conclusion that ionizing radiation in different doses has a different effect on the sowing qualities of some cereals. At low doses of radiation, seed germination is stimulated in various crops. However, with an increase in the dose of ionizing radiation, a reverse effect was observed in the studies: the germination of seeds decreased as compared with the control data. In this case, the seedling death after the influence of ionizing radiation in high doses may not occur immediately, but over time. The effect of radiation depended on its type, intensity, absorbed dose and even the crop variety characteristics.
