The product of the reaction between cobalt(II) chloride and 3,3,6,7-tetramethyl-1-N-(1-phenyl-2,3-dimethyl-5-oxo-3-pyrazolin-4-yl)imino-1,2, 3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline (L1) was synthesized and characterized by X-ray diffraction and IR and electronic absorption spectroscopy. In the compound [(HL1)CoCl3], the protonated monodentate ligand (HL1)+ is coordinated to the cobalt atom through the oxygen atom. In the cobalt coordination tetrahedron, the Co-Cl bond lengths are 2.227, 2.276, and 2.286 Å; the Co-O bond length is 1.998 Å.
