Cardiac syndrome before and following surgical treatment of calculous cholecystitis (Russian)

Among a series of 253 patients with cholelithiasis the main complaint of the patients during exacerbations of cholecystitis was cardialgia, noted in 132 patients (51.2%). It is suggested that the selection of patients with calculous cholecystitis for surgical treatment should be a discriminating one, particularly in patients with a history of ischemic heart disease. In most cases, however, cardiac disorders should not be considered a contraindication to surgical treatment. Opinion as to the hazard of ischemic heart disease in calculous cholecystitis is obviously exaggerated as comcomitant coronary insufficiency occurs in only 8-9% of these patients. These views are supported by the successful surgical treatment of this series of patients with a cholecysto cardiac syndrome.
