Under conditions of muscle relaxation, traumatic shock with acute blood loss was induced in 15 dogs and 10 cats. A marked drop in arterial and venous pressure, a decrease in volume of blood circulation, hypoxia, metabolic acidosis, hyperkaliemia, and hypoxia of the brain and myocardium were all characteristic results of shock. In addition, severe disorders of the microcirculation in tissues and organs were established in animals which died from shock. Data show that in the absence of specific therapy, as was the case in the present experiment, the animals die from shock within periods from 17 min to 5 hr,20 min.
