Impact of Waste Engine oil on the Properties of Hybridized Basalt Fiber Reinforced High-Strength Concrete

This study aims to investigate the effect of waste engine oil on high-strength concrete (HSC) reinforced with macro-basalt (MaBF) and or micro-basalt (MiBF). The objectives are to investigate the properties of the BF-reinforced HSC at different conditions. 0.5%, 1%, and 1.5% of BF were used for each BF-reinforced HSC. 120 HSC cubes were prepared and tested. The 1% MaBF and 1% hybrid-BF (HBF) reinforced HSC attained the highest compressive strength (fc) at 28 days of curing. Both of which had an increase of 2.42% with 79.375MPa. An increase in the BF percentage reduced the workability of HSC. The fc of waste oil-HSC decreased slightly compared to that of the oil-free concrete. The 1% HBF HSC soaked in waste engine oil showed the best fc with a 0.6% decrease in fc at 78.875 MPa. The EC of oil-soaked specimens is relatively lower than the EC of the oil-free specimens. It could be seen that the EC of 1% MaBF is the highest with 46523MPa. This study demonstrates that HBF-HSC is suitable for constructing mechanical workshops and provides a better understanding of how impurities affect the properties of HSC, and gives an eco-friendly alternative in using industrial waste for construction.
