Measurement-Based Received Signal Time-Series Generation for 6G Terahertz Cellular Systems

The blockage of propagation paths between the base station (BS) and user equipment (UE), as well as micromobility due to fast rotation of UE in the hands of a user, are known to be the main phenomena affecting the performance of 6G (sub-)terahertz (sub-THz/THz, 0.1–0.3, 0.3–3 THz) cellular systems. The development of various functions targeting the performance improvement of such systems requires careful understanding of the received signal dynamics. However, practical measurements of the received signal power are generally limited to blockage and micromobility phenomena in isolation. In this study, by utilizing individual measurements of blockage and micromobility processes, we developed an algorithm for generating the time-series of the received signal strength, as seen at the UE, simultaneously capturing blockage, micromobility, and beamtracking procedures. The traces produced can be further utilized for various tasks, including the assessment of the energy efficiency of THz communications and the development of statistical tests for discriminating blockage and micromobility events. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.
