AN OVERVIEW OF CURRENT METHODS OF GLIOBLASTOMA RESEARCH

Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most common and lethal primary tumor of the central nervous system. What makes it so dreadful is the very low survival rate, despite the existence of a standard treatment plan. GBM remains an incurable disease with a median patient survival of approximately 18 months. The need to develop new and effective therapies for glioblastoma persists. This complex biomedical task is greatly facilitated by the remarkable progress in interdisciplinary research and the promising results obtained in these studies. It is anticipated that the integration of the most promising results from different scientific disciplines may facilitate the development of novel and promising therapeutic approaches for patients with GBM. The treatment of this group of patients requires complex and expensive diagnostic and therapeutic technologies.
