Diseases of the gastrointestinal tract in dogs retain their leading position among other pathologies. However, parasites of the gastrointestinal tract are among the most common pathogenic agents in carnivores worldwide and are the cause of severe gastroenteritis. It should be noted that an important function in the body of animals is performed by blood cells, the main part of which is erythrocytes. Therefore, the diagnostic importance of determining the quantitative and qualitative characteristics of erythrocytes in the blood during pathological processes is highly significant both in theoretical and practical aspects. In this regard, the aim of the study was to study the influence of protozooses of the small intestine Cystoisospora sp. And Giardia sp. on hematological parameters in dogs. The objects of the study were 100 dogs of various breeds. Animals were divided into groups depending on age and infestation. All dogs underwent a gemological study, where standard blood counts, erythrocyte indices were calculated, and the morphological characteristics of erythrocytes were evaluated. As a result of the obtained data, normocytic normochromic anemia was found in sick dogs, and pathological forms of erythrocytes, such as acanthocytes, codocytes, stomatocytes, schizocytes, were observed in blood smears, which was especially pronounced in older dogs. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
