One of the main problems in medical practice is the lack of patient adherence to treatment, which is often attributed to the bitterness or sourness of medicines causing discomfort and an aversion during administration, especially in children. Therefore, masking an unpleasant taste is one of the goals of pharmaceutical development. This review covers some of these approaches and their advantages and disadvantages and provides relevant examples of the possible use of each of them. © 2023, Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature.
