Zopiclone is the most commonly used in medical practice agonist of benzodiazepine receptors of the non-benzodiazepine series. The detection of zopiclone metabolites is relevant in cases of poisoning. We present the developed complex method of HPLC – HRMS with orbitrap technology used to detect zopiclone metabolites in the urine of patients during forensic chemical and chemical-toxicological examination. The zopiclone metabolites — zopiclone-N-oxide and N-desmethylzopiclone have been identified. The retention time and characteristic ions of the mass spectra of those compounds proved the validity of the proposed detection procedure as a sensitive method for detecting zopiclone metabolites which can be used in modern laboratories. © 2022 Izdatel'stvo Meditsina.
