SDG7. New Assessment Methods

The research analyzes the elements of the assessment of Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG 7) and proposes modifying them to make them more representative of reality. According to the UN methodology, SDG 7 is assessed by four key elements: the share of the country’s population with access to electricity, the share of the country’s population with access to clean fuels, CO2 emissions from electricity production, and the share of renewable energy sources in the total volume of primary energy supplies. This research proposes that it would be more logical to use indicators such as the level of electrification of the country, the price per kW of electricity for consumers, the price of natural gas, the share of renewable energy in a country’s energy balance, the share of nuclear power plants in a country’s energy balance, and coal consumption. Based on the results of the analysis carried out using the UN methodology, the authors compiled a final rating and a table of gaps (the difference between the country’s indicator and 100% of achieving the indicator). © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.
