CONSIDERATION OF THE ABSTRACTING PROCESS

Analysing the abstracting process is always relevant. Abstracting is used by students and teachers at schools and universities, by researchers, and others. The purpose of this research is to consider and analyse the abstracting process. The methodological basis of the research is a combination of various general scientific methods of cognition. Information analysis and synthesis, comparative, induction, and deduction methods are used in this study. Relevant scientific literature is analysed with specific reference to the subject under study. In the course of this study, the abstracting process is examined. The differences between abstracting and annotating are considered. All abstracting characteristics and principles are indicated. The study summarises the recommendations for the preparation of abstracts. The stages of abstracting, which must be followed for effective preparation of abstracts, are demonstrated. Notably, regardless of the type of abstract, its text can be divided into three main parts: the title, the summary, and the main part. It is important to specify that the process of abstracting the text of the primary document, for example, a book, paper, or patent, should take place in three stages. In this study, all these stages are considered and analysed, while the necessity and importance of each of them are also noted. The practical value of this research lies in the fact that it can be used for a comprehensive study of the abstracting process. This research can be used by students and teachers to acquire the skills of abstracting texts. © 2022, Aeternitas Publishing House. All rights reserved.
