Reversible activated adsorption of gases on metals

It was experimentally shown that, along with ordinary adsorption, the H2-Rh, CO-Rh, Co-Ni, C2H4-Ni, n-C6H14-Ni, CO-Ta, and H2-Ta systems exhibited reversible activated adsorption. A thermodynamic model of reversible activated adsorption of gases was proposed. According to this model, mobile metal adatoms were involved in the formation of new adsorption sites, whose number increased with temperature.
