DIFFERENCES IN THE SPECIAL FEATURES OF ONTOGENY DETERMINING ANNUAL OR PERENNIAL HABIT OF CEREAL GROWTH

The different habit of cereal growth is determined by the reaction of their regrowth shoots to light and vernalization. Regrowth shoots of annual wintering grasses react to light like vernalized plants and resemble the shoots of spring grasses. Regrowth shoots of perennial grasses preserve their natural adaptive reaction to light and vernalization. This results in the inadequate hardening of annual grasses and their failure to overwinter.
