This article looks at although Cambodia and the PRC do not share a common border, their relationship has flourished since the days of the Khmer Empire. Later, after a long and tense struggle, Cambodia gained independence from France in 1953. King Norodom Sihanouk led Cambodia to independence, which was officially declared on November 9, 1953 and continues until the current administration of Prime Minister Hun Sen. The article presents the past and present political and economic relations between the two countries, which entered into diplomatic relations after Cambodia recognized the legitimacy of the PRC in 1958. By developing good relations with China, King Norodom Sihanouk helped ease China’s depression. in the 1960s, he fought at the UN to surrender the Republic of China (Taiwan). China provided financial assistance to Cambodia, which helped Cambodia to strengthen its nation.
