MORPHOLOGICAL FEATURES OF THE MEGAHERBS OF SUBANTARCTIC ISLANDS

Megaherbs are unique group of plants, populating the Islands and archipelagos of high southern latitudes. Harsh weather conditions and peculiar soils of these territories led to the formation of adaptive features or a combination of them that are not typical for other plant groups. In recent decades, megaherbs are under threat due to the settlement of rabbits on the Islands, which have a negative impact on the species composition of the Islands ' flora. Animal control methods are not always effective for this reason, studying the morphology of megaherbs can help when trying to cultivate them in other regions and will help preserve the biological diversity of the Earth.
