Policy Review of Global Gas Market Players: A Combined State and MNE Approach Towards New Balance of Efficiency and Security

The article is dedicated to the analysis and prediction of mid-term trends in the globalizing natural gas market. A special emphasis is put upon the problem of efficient energy procurement in terms of national economies and international affairs. The problem is allegedly created by emerging global trends as a result of contradicting interests of key market players. The issue becomes even more topical as erosion of international rules takes place (sanctions, WTO institutional crisis, etc.). The authors suggest observing corporate and government interests as an interdependent economic complex, not as separate issues. Such an approach provides for a broader view of international strategic developments and for internalizing some variables, which have been external for many commodity market researchers beforehand. For example, this approach enables us to comprehend state policy towards green energy proliferation and carbon footprint downsizing not as a declared transcendental value, but as an economic tool for enhancing national competitiveness and competitiveness of domestic energy and manufacturing industries. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
