Combating Climate Change by Finance – The Experience of the Netherlands

The context of this study contains the author's analysis of the main elements that make up the concept of green finance in the Netherlands - green bonds, green loans, green funds, and green deals. The authors came to the conclusion that the main obstacle to the development of green finance in the Netherlands is the lack of carbon prices and the uncertainty of government policies related to long-term green financing measures. Other reasons that obstruct the progress of green finance were: 1) long payback periods for green investments, 2) lack of venture capital, 3) inadequate sustainability criteria, 4) small investment projects.
