The spinodal of a liquid phase based on the generalized van der Waals equation

The generalized van der Waals equation is used to obtain formulas for calculating spinodals in the p, V, T coordinates. The parameters of the characteristic spinodal points are calculated for N2, Ar, O2, CO2, H3N, H2O, Hg, and Cs. These parameters include the temperature and the density of a liquid at the point of its maximum overheating under zero pressure; the density at absolute zero; the slope of the spinodal in the p, T coordinates under zero pressure and at the critical point; and the theoretical tensile strength of the phase at absolute zero. The graphs of water, mercury, and cesium spinodals are given.
