The article considers the problem of discourse markers from national-cultural medium aspect. Qualitative and quantitative analysis of discourse markers in environmental research papers has been carried out. The study was conducted on a small corpus of 10 scientific articles on ecology in English and Russian. The subject of the study was to identify the national specifics of the use of discourse markers for the organization of scientific texts in English and Russian. This was done through manual collection of discourse markers throughout the entire corpus with further analysis of their frequencies as well as national specifics of their use. Despite the fact that all articles belong to the same scientific field, the use of discourse markers differs in a few aspects due to cognitive, organizational and structural differences that are characteristic for the researchers of various nationalities. This research can be considered a pilot study and the results require further testing on a larger corpus.
