ON EXPLORING THE REGULATIVE FUNCTION OF SPEECH

The linguistic analysis of professional activities of interpreters in the process of consecutive translation, students' experimental work with texts and material for comprehension and translation in class, survey of psychological tests on perception mechanism made it possible to describe a cognitive scheme of human reflection and interpretation of the real world. Contemporary studies in linguistics and psychology have proved that verbal communication should be considered an interaction of people who are determined to cooperate. By exploring the regulative function of speech we are able to analyze objective and subjective aspects of verbal interaction. Any text as a result of speech activities may be considered as a system integrating mutually dependent elements. A word can be characterized as a basic verbal element of a text. Verbal elements-signs-belong to the material world, but they implement the ideal world of human perception, conception and intention. The concept of a subject whose activities are performed at a certain place at a certain time can be defined as a cognitive triad. Obviously we can give this triad a status of basic cognitive scheme which enables us to understand the meaning of a text as a whole. This cognitive scheme is used in teaching students to comprehend a text, to perceive its message by structuring and organizing the information in it, at last (but not the least) to analyze the regulative function of the speech. Recent researches have proved that elements of the text are not equal as far as the amount and value of the information and impact they possess. It means that human perception and reflection of the outer world is carried out by highlighting the most important information. Hence, students should be trained to process the information they perceive, to single out the informative peaks-deictic parameters we have described earlier, to reproduce this information in translation relevantly.
