Inverse q sweep signal for broadband vibroseis acquisition

Inverse Q filtering procedure is usually applied to seismograms during processing stage for compensation of signal high frequencies loss and its phase dispersion. Recent developments in vibrator control electronics allow generating of frequency-modulated signal, which may vary its amplitude and phase spectra in broad frequency bandwidth. It is possible to preliminary construct and emit such sweep signal, which precedes following propagation effect depending on the Earth Q factor, thus provide higher S/N ratio for better further signal processing efforts. The purpose of this work was to demonstrate possibility and advantage of emitting inverse Q signal comparative to routine linear sweep signal generation followed by registered data signal processing. © 2020 Society of Exploration Geophysicists.
