This article analyzes, through comparison and evaluation, two translations of Mikhail Lermontov's romantic poem "The Demon" (1839) from Russian to Spanish (Constant Brusiloff) and to English (Avril Pyman). The translation equivalence with respect to the original text is established on the basis of intertextual analysis through examples. From the authors' point of view, the concepts of intertextuality and equivalence permit to value the recreations of the original in its relevance. The article exposes the appropriate mechanisms and strategies for the proper translation.
