Digital Economy in China: Modern Trends

The relevance of the research topic is due to the high importance of the digital economy as the basis for the long-term socio-economic and technological development of China. The purpose of the article is to identify the main features and benefits of the economy based on the using and application of digital data in the PRC and also the constraints that the country faces, especially with regard to digital data and digital platforms. The novelty of the article lies in the study of the readiness of the PRC to take advantage of the digital economy and overcome the limitations, which are associated with it. As a result of the study it was revealed that the PRC is undergoing a transition to digitalization, the formation of a digital economy in a number of segments of the national economy. This is due to the need to improve its technological level in order to obtain new opportunities for participation in the process of the international division of labor, to better meet the needs of business entities and to implement the main goal - long-term sustainable development. But there are also segments, which aren’t covered by digitalization, including the small business segment. The authors come to the conclusion that a more comprehensive digitalization of the PRC economy - both in the sectoral and regional aspects - can contribute to solving these and other problems in the long term. The research used methods of analysis and synthesis, scientific abstraction, statistical and deductive methods. © 2021, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
