Statistical approaches in literature: Comparing and clustering the alternatives of love in Divan of Hafiz

Hafiz is one of the finest lyric poets of Iran. He learnt a lot from scholars and writers. This research deals with the alternatives of the word 'Love' in Divan of Hafiz. First, these words are determined and their counts are computed. Then, we classify them into sixteen categories. Finally, the counts of the words and the categories are compared using chi-square test and cluster analysis. The clustering results showed that the word 'Way' and the category 'Human' have the most applications as the alternatives of the word 'Love' in Divan of Hafiz. © The Author(s) 2019.
