Hydrated Barium Hafnate

Reactions of a potassium hexahydroxohafnate solution with a barium hydroxide solution was studied, and formation of metahafnate K2xBa1-x HfO3 · 2H2O (x = 0.15-0.4) is found. The compound is characterized by crystal-optical, chemical, and X-ray diffraction analyses, IR spectroscopy, and thermogravimetry. The effect of potassium and barium substitution on selected properties of metahafnate is discussed.
