GROWING STRAWBERRIES HYDROPONICALLY

Until recently, strawberries were grown in the usual way in the open or closed ground. A large number of methods of intensive harvesting have been studied. The opportunity to grow berries yearround, and growing in water allows to optimize growing process, allows to precisely control irrigation and mineral nutrition of plants. Growing berries using hydroponics is a way to produce products in industry. Strawberry- is a perennial plant having fibrous root system. The upper perennial part of strawberry is a short stem and its life span is 5 or more years. Depending on variety and conditions, strawberries contain from 6 to 11% sugar, as well as citric, malic, quinic, salicylic, phosphoric acids. When ripe, succinic acid appears, traces of shikimic and glycolic acids, vitamin C (47-120 mg), pectins, anthocyanins, carotene, essential oil, traces of vitamin B, flavonoids, salts of potassium, iron, calcium and phosphorus. Low-calorie strawberries 36.9 kcal per 100 g. According to the content of vitamin C, strawberries are inferior only to black currants. Fresh fruits are used in food and used in confectionery production for wines and liqueurs.
