Correlation up-activation / down-deactivation and its modification in Chinese, Russian and English

The article reveals the correlation of the state changes of UP / DOWN, which is a common cognitive base for metaphorical mapping of changes. Comparative analysis of metaphorical mapping of changes revealed the basic correlation of UP-ACTIVATION / DOWN-DEACTIVATION by means of language units containing an idea of the dynamic process UP / DOWN, in which the General idea of different cultures about the energy movement was considered as the causality of changes in the world order. The realization of the correlation in the language is its modification, which depends on the ideological origin of anthropocentrism and reflects a person's understanding of his/her role in relation with everything else: for HUMAN-OBSERVER, ACTIVATION or DEACTIVATION is perceived neutrally and the change is cyclical; for HUMAN-EXPERIENCER, whose awareness of the uncontrollable energy movement is combined with the sensation of movement impact on himself, a sudden activation of energy with a powerful potential is “registered”; for HUMAN-AGENT, who focuses on his/her own actions, UP-ACTIVATION / DOWN-DEACTIVATION turns into UP-MOBILIZATION / DOWN-DEMOBILIZATION. The conclusion about the synthesis of the physical and physiological basis with the ideological beginning of anthropocentrism can be further tested in the study of cultural variability metaphors. © 2019 Tambov State University.
