Babenko's work on spherical Lebesgue constants

The idea of this note is two-fold. On the one hand, this is a preface to the publication of English translation of the celebrated K.I. Babenko' preprint. On the other hand, we give a brief background of the topic at that time and in the subsequent years. © The Eurasian National University.
