Synthesis and Structure of the Iron(III) Chloride Complex with 1-Morpholino-3,3-dimethyl-3,4-dihydroisoquinoline

The iron(III) chloride complex with 1-morpholino-3,3-dimethyl-3,4-dihydroisoquinoline (I) was synthesized and characterized by X-ray crystallography and IR and electronic spectroscopy. Structure I is built of centrosymmetric binuclear [(FeCl3)2(μ-O)]2- anions and (HL)+ cations. The coordination of the Fe3+ atom is tetrahedral. The bond lengths are Fe-O(br) 1.748 Å, average Fe-Cl 2.221 Å. The (HL)+ cation is protonated at the nitrogen atom of the dihydroisoquinoline moiety.
