LINGUISTIC CHALLENGES: ENGLISH LEGAL SYSTEM

Studying English Legal System is a mandatory part of the curriculum in a Law higher education institution. First, the English Legal System is a valuable source to study the laws, rules and regulations in the English speaking countries; the history of the countries and their social standards. Then, nowadays in most cases, the authentic materials are used in teaching practice so the students get the information on the topic from the original books and papers written in English. It is a good impetus for the students to develop their reading skills in a foreign language. However, sometimes the comprehension in reading cannot be achieved, as some concepts of the English Legal System could be hardly understood by the readers who have another historical and cultural background and speak other languages. In this connection, one of the main tasks of the professional training of lawyers-to-be is to provide the students with the useful and essential information about the English Legal System and envisage their complete and adequate comprehension despite the lexical and terminological challenges. The paper presents the output of the practical experience dealing with the various ways of overcoming lexical interference in the domain of law including the translation from the source (English) into a target (Russian) language.
