On the theory of parametric cyclotron resonance

The transversal motion of a charged particle in a static magnetic field superimposed by a low impedance (B>>E) standing electromagnetic wave is considered. It is shown that when omega approximately=2 omega c0 or omega approximately= omega c0, the transverse energy of the particle grows exponentially with time under certain conditions. The obtained values for the growth rates depend not only on the amplitude and the detuning of the HF field but also on the form and the space distribution of the electrical field. Such resonances in cavities excited at the modes TE011 and TE 111 are analysed. The possibility of using the parametric cyclotron resonance for plasma heating in large scale machines is discussed.
