ISLAM IN SUBSAHARAN AFRICA: CASESTUDY OF CURRENT TRENDS OF ISLAM IN CAMEROON

This article draws from the independent and indigenous school of African history to retrace the advent of Islam in Sub-Saharan Africa and in Cameroon in particular. The authour argues that Islam is described as unfit for democratic exercise and hostile to humanism. However, there are models of Islam that go beyond the purely conflictual framework prominent in the world today. Special attention is paid to the characteristics of Islam in Cameroon, its integration with local specificities and the different trajectories of this religion in its interweaving with modern developments.
