A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE ORIGIN AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE

The article gives a brief outline of the development of the English language: from its origins to its present state. It describes the influence of historical events throughout the centuries, the development and change of the language according to the three main periods, which are distinguished by linguists: Old English, Middle English and New English. Some borrowings of vocabulary and varieties of English are discussed.
