Condensation of azafluorenes with aromatic aldehydes under phase-transfer-catalysis conditions

Aryl-substituted (in the oxirane ring) spiro[azafluorene-9,2′-oxiranes] were obtained, and their configuration was established. The substances that are formed under phase-transfer catalysis conditions in the condensation of 1-azafluorene with benzaldehyde were studied. A relationship between the ratio of aryl-substituted (in the oxirane ring) isomeric spiro[azafluorene-9,2′-oxiranes] and the position of the nitrogen atom in the azafluorene fragment was established. © 1983 Plenum Publishing Corporation.
