Hydrocephalus in dogs. The vcntricularperitoneal bypass

Hydrocephalus is a congenital pathology of small dog breeds. The ventricular-peritoneal bypass is novel technique for treatment of this pathology. As of today 8 out of 12 animals which were bypassed have survived. The quality of their life has improved. According to biochemical and cytological researches antibodies to Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pyogenus, and Streptococcus pneum were found, as well as circulating immune complexes, and increase of total protein and albumin fraction contents, which may indicate chronic periventricular encephalitis condition.
