Author examines motives and originality of the philosophical dialogue of the Western and Orient spiritual traditions in the epoch of the late Roman empire; the author's attention is focused not so much on the differences and confrontation between Western and Orient speculative constructions that are seeking mutual understanding as on the commonness of their methodological approach (method of analytical hermeneutics, in this case) owing to which the very notion of dialogue of different cultures gains positive meaning, in particular, finds an expression in the typological identity of the Western and Orient philosophical discourses. This identity is especially illustrative in the dialogue of the neo-Platonism and the philosophizing theology of Christianity about the nature and essence of the human soul.
