An iron (III) chloride complex with 3-(2-furyl)-5,5-dimethyl-8,9-dimethoxy- 5,6-dihydro-1,2,4-triazolo[3,4-a]isoquinoline (L) was synthesized. The crystal structure of (HL2)[FeCl4] (I) was determined by X-ray single-crystal diffraction. A specific structural feature of compound I is a singly charged cation in which two structurally independent organic molecules L are linked by an N(2)⋯H⋯N(2) hydrogen bond. The tetrahedral [FeCl4]- anion has the usual geometry. The Fe-Cl bond lengths are in the 2.163(2)-2.183(2) Å range.
